Since 2002 Islamic Shakhsiyah Foundation has been engaged in pioneering Islamic teacher education and continuous professional development for the 21st Century. As our ethos was so heavily focused on Islam and because we drew extensively from a range of ‘alternative’ education ideas it was essential that early on we develop our staff in these areas to give them the knowledge and skills needed to fulfil our aims. So in the summer of 2002 we ran a four week crash course in teaching and Islamic education. This became an annual feature and was supplemented with one day insets for staff. The word spread and Muslim teachers from other schools and organisations began to attend. In 2006 we began to be involved in training in other schools and working in association with Nida trust and later IBERR to provide a range of teacher education and training. We have conducted training course on topics as wide ranging as: - Aims and Objectives of Education in Islam
- Tarbiyah Ta’alim and Taadib
- Muhammad (saw) as a teacher
- Holistic Curriculum
- The National Curriculum and Islamic education
- Integrated Creative Curriculum
- Human-scale education
- Realistic Mathematics education
- Science and Islam – building on Islamic heritage
- History and Culturally Relevant education
- Classroom Management and organisation
- Positive Islamic behaviour
- Qualities of a Muslim teacher
- Developing Shakhsiyah Islamiyah
- Sources of Knowledge in Islam and the importance of Ikhtilaf
- Concepts of childhood in Islam and contemporary society
As well as a wide range of training on our innovative use of Halaqah: - Using the Halaqah in early years and primary education
- Oracy and Dialogic teaching through Halaqah
- Spirituality and development of the Nafs through Halaqah
- Muslims in Britain – Developing good citizens through Halaqah

This is what we need as Muslim teachers to incorporate Islam into all areas of learning. I like the fact that the training is interactive and there is an opportunity to engage with teachers from other schools.” “Inspirational and professional yet relaxed and informal, the trainers are approachable and helpful.” “Thought-provoking, makes you think and reflect upon your practice. The focus is on how to develop every aspect of an individual child’s needs. The Halaqah is an amazing way to achieve this.”
