The ISF Slough Summer Fun Day and BBQ Event 2010

The theme for the 2010 Slough ISF branch’s Funday was "Welcoming Ramadhan" as it was held the weekend before the beginning of Ramadan.
Our venue was no other than the Upton Court Park, Slough,  well known for major events.

The dedicated team planned and prepared endlessly for the event making sure that all possible scenarios were addressed beforehand and therefore, even the weather was on our side Alhamdulillah on the day! The aim of the day was to appreciate and reward the hard work of our students and all supporting them.

We were blessed with a lovely hot and dry day, and the turnout was amazing throughout the event.
A presenter from Islam Channel took the stage and rolled open the event with recitation of the Quran by one of the young children from our school.

There were lots of fun activities for all including; a bouncy space dome, mini fair ride, bungee jumping, Archery, penalty shootout, Henna and face artists and mini farm and ice cream, and much more. There were also Qirat competitions for all age groups, presentations and Martial arts displays by ISF children with Sifu Abdul Qayyum.

There were variety of stall holders including hijaabs, scarves, perfumes, Islamic books, Education resources, clothing, household goods etc and also an ISF dedicated Bric a Brac stall which did very well. ‘Cake face a local’ Halal cake bakery also came and sold their cakes, donating all funds to ISF.

By far was the most popular stalls to our guests (where the queues never ever looked to fade!) was the food stands, which  displayed the rich and diverse tastes of Asia, Europe and the Middle East. The BBQ team on the other hand sold a record number of burgers ever sold on an ISF fun day. A big Jazakallah khair to our sponsors, including La Kasbah and Lebanese Grill, for all their help and food donations.

Over all, our mission was accomplished in holding a large event for the community, the kids had great fun, who loved the rides, the ice cream and activities arranged for kids and adults, and the school raised around £6000,  which will go towards the purchase of the school building for our school in Slough.

Once again, a big Jazakallah (Thankyou) and Well-done to all the people involved, especially sister Kiran Lone for organising and managing this successful even and watch this space again for details of "Funday 2011" inshallah.

Quotes from some stalls/activity holders...

"Ramadhan mubarak to you and your family. Alhamdolillah it was a great event with such a welcoming and friendly atmosphere, it was a great turnout and for me this was very good as it was my first time doing something like this. Great work and jazak'Allah for all your help."

"The location was great, because it provided some natural shade from the trees - so much better than shade from pop-up gazebos. I know a day like that is very tiring for your the organiser, but I hope you did manage to enjoy yourself, and also hope that you made a profit"
